Hellooooo September!

I am in!

I am sore and tired and cramped (as in surrounded by boxes that could totally band together & conquer me if they could think) and cool. Cool because after one night without it, my mommy bought me a window air conditioner. *sigh* It's glorious. And I found the coolest thing while 'installing' said conditioner: transparent duct tape!. It's still definitely got the cross-hatching, but much less noticeable than the token gray.

So many, many, many thanks again to Kim & Mom for being punishment gluttons for helping me this weekend. I would not recommend to anyone that they move Labor Day weekend (or any holiday weekend, really). Nothing makes the pain & sweat more vicious than driving the moving van (several times) past a beautiful beach packed with people enjoying the weekend. Especially if you have 47 sets of keys with you when you get to the new apartment with a loaded van, but, ah, none of those keys actually open the doors to the new building because you left those on the windowsill of the old apartment. If that happens, it's much more helpful to laugh. Which I did. Over and over. All weekend. Granted, I only fell once. And of course it (!) it was carrying the very last thing up the stairs. Every bruise will remind me of some crippling giggle fit. And I have many bruises. But I blame the guy at Budget for starting it.

What kind of moron starts drumming his fingers against a cardboard box in a tiny room full of irritated, sweaty people? The kind that sends one of my eyebrows shooting up and sends Kim into a fit of laughter that forces her to step outside. Those other people must have thought we were crazy. At least I'm sure they did when I started tearing up and snorted. Mom was very proud.

But it was a very fun weekend. You're all welcome at my swinging bachelorette pad. Did I mention it's only 30 yards from the beach? Too bad that was too far for any of us to walk this weekend. After 3 floors & oodles of boxes, it just wasn't as tempting as lying on the floor. Did I mention the air conditioning? Woo!

It's Over! (part one)

While I am not in my new place until this weekend, Dave is OUT. And I have my iTunes & iPhoto libraries. His keys are here, so no more stopping in to get more stuff unannounced. It may not sound that impressive, but it feels pretty freaking awesome to me. In fact, I think it's time to play Al Bundy & sit to watch some TV in my underwear...just because I can.

It takes 2

It just occurred to me that in 2 weeks I will officially be in my new apartment. Granted, I'm going to start moving things next week, but as of Sept. 1 I'll be permanently out of this place. I'm trying to treat it like giving 2 weeks notice at a job. Spending time with the things I'll miss (e.g. space) and getting ready to move on. And thanks to the fall schedule not starting until well into September, I think I'm going to shut my cable off today. I knew there was a reason for me buying allllll those movies. Just to entertain myself. I'm working my way through season 2 of Buffy. And I'll be using tomorrow to sort Christmas ornaments, magic eraser some walls and label my boxes. I'm sure a trip or 2 to Ikea will find it's way in as well.

I just thought about that episode of Fat Actress (which, by the way is hysterical) where it is suggested to Kirstie Alley (by Wallace Shawn no less - 'inconceivable') that to make herself 'smaller' she surround herself by small things. Cut to Leah Remini entering to find Kirstie sitting in a circle with a group of little people. Basically, I'm wondering if I too will become more compact in a compact space. Hopefully that doesn't translate to shorter. I've got that covered.

On The Upside

Duh! Twilight is coming out 3 weeks early! It's nice to have some Edward Cullen salve to ease my Harry Potter wait. Squee!

After a 20 minute conversation (about Twilight) with 2 of the girls at Bath & Body Works in my mall, I was emailed a 'version' of the script they found online. Who knows how genuine it is, but I definitely had fun reading it. I'm thinking seeing it twice in one day (November 21st) isn't out of the question - and only slightly obsessive.

Waiting again

I feel like I'm in a constant state of flux. I have a home technically, but it's hard to feel comfy when 90% of your belongings are in boxes (b/c my dresser is in Joyce's basement until I fetch it & it's BIG - so I'm not moving it more than I have to). I'm on an aerobed for now (Thank you, Michelle), but at least I've started cooking again, which is nice. I'm convinced that the smell of lasagna can make even a bench feel homey.

Dave should be getting the last of his things out of the apartment today. Yes, it's ridiculous that there are still things there, but he did pay his share of the rent for the last month (albeit grudgingly), and honestly, I couldn't care less about the objects there as long as he's not. Everything's much easier without coming home & looking to see if his car is there or not. I'm too tired to deal with his hostility - especially when it's completely unwarranted.

I'm working Mom & Kim to get some volunteers for moving the last week of this month. Hopefully I'll have most of the boxes in by then and just need help with the big things - dresser, tv...yeah, that's about it. Lesson learned: if you're having any misgivings about a relationship, DO NOT donate your furniture - especially your bed, because you are a dumbass if you do. A dumbass that sleeps on an aerobed.

All in all, everything is much better. We'll see if I still feel that way when I get home tonight. And by that I mean whether I'm going to have to fight for the All-Clad or not. I may be tired, but I love my pots. And I've been promised a flash-drive with my music/photos on it from the other computer. It may take a while to get that. Enough promises have been broken in the last month, but that's in the past now. Wow. That is too depressing to have as a last sentence in a post.

So how about this?

I've got my apartment. Remind me how excited and relieved I am right now when I start complaining about the actual move (silver lining? I own nothing) ;) Pictures to come later this month. I'll be moving the very end of August.

Joy! And Liberation! And Freedom! Hooray!
